X Chromosome – Female Inheritance

While this chromosome, which is one of two that determine sex (X, Y), may not be as useful to genealogists as the male inheritance (Y chromosome), it may help narrow down how someone is related to you. These charts illustrate the inheritance which is passed from mother to child. Men inherit the X chromosome from their mothers, but they do not pass it to their male children. 

DNA testing companies who provide X chromosome results include FamilyTreeDNA, Ancestry.com, MyHeritage, and 23andMe.
